A Web Design For PDCCA, West Sussex To Communicate Their Amazing Work

01 October 2026 15:19

Sometimes the web designs that mean the most aren't the biggest ones. They're the ones that make a difference close to home.

Yesterday, Pulborough was very much in the spotlight when the Princess of Wales visited the village, joining the West Sussex Minibus service and travelling with local residents to the Wednesday Lunch Club, at Pulborough & District Community Care Association (PDCCA).

Based in West Sussex, and being local to Pulborough, we were thrilled that these amazing voluntary services were being honoured. This was particularly the case as we had been asked to undertake the web design for the PDCCA website. This design also included creating their new logo, and taking photography for their site.

We knew that PDCCA is key to the Pulborough community here in West Sussex, and so we wanted to create a web design that would help this amazing local charity communicate the difference it makes.

A local charity with a big heart

PDCCA has been serving Pulborough and the surrounding area since 1966, originally beginning as a "Good Neighbour" scheme. Today, its work encompasses community transport, a weekly Wednesday Lunch Club, befriending, the Pulborough Pop-In and other practical support for local people.

A lot of what the organisation does comes down to something wonderfully simple: helping people feel less alone and more connected to their community.

That might mean helping someone get to an appointment, providing transport to the shops, visiting someone who is lonely, or simply creating somewhere friendly to meet other people.

The charity is powered by local volunteers, giving their time to help other local people. And that's exactly the sort of community project we love being involved with.

When PDCCA got in touch

When PDCCA approached us about their website, we were very keen to help.

We are fortunate to work with a variety of clients in West Sussex and beyond. We undertake web design for larger commercial clients, smaller businesses, and local community projects. While every project brings its own challenges, there's something particularly rewarding about being able to use our skills to help an organisation that is making a genuine difference on our doorstep.

The existing charity had a huge amount of information and, more importantly, a huge amount of good work to communicate.

The challenge was to create something that felt approachable, friendly and modern, while making it really easy for people to understand what PDCCA does, find the support they need, volunteer, or get in touch.

Creating a new identity

Along with the web design, we worked on a new visual identity for PDCCA.

Branding isn't about making something look "fancy". It's about finding a visual way of communicating who an organisation is and what it stands for.

For a community charity like PDCCA, that meant creating something warm and approachable that could work across the website, printed material and other communications.

It needed to feel like a local organisation – professional, but not corporate; friendly, but not childish; and, most importantly, something that the people involved with PDCCA could feel proud of.

Bringing the people into the picture

An important part of the web design project was taking the photographs as photography can make such a difference to a charity website. Stock photography can only go so far, but photographs of actual people, places and activities tell you who you are going to meet.

PDCCA is all about people, so it made sense for the photography to reflect that.

We wanted the new website to feel genuine and welcoming, rather than looking like a generic charity website. The people volunteering, supporting and using the services are the heart of the organisation, and the photography helped to bring that to life.

A web design that does the job

A finished website isn't just there to look nice, although in the case of PDCCA it did look really clean and lovely!

It also needs to work hard for PDCCA.

Someone visiting the site might be looking for help with loneliness. Someone else might want to find out about community transport. Another person might be considering volunteering. And someone else might simply want to understand what the charity does and how they can support it.

The website therefore needed to make all of those journeys as straightforward as possible.

That's one of the things we enjoy most about web design, taking lots of information and working out how to organise it, so that it makes sense to the person looking for it.

Good design should make things easier.

And then came a rather special visit…

Which brings us back to yesterday.

The Princess of Wales visited Pulborough to mark the 50th anniversary of the West Sussex Minibus service, joining volunteers as they collected elderly residents and taking part in the weekly lunch at Pulborough Village Hall. Around 50 people attended the lunch, where she chatted with residents about friendship, community and the importance of staying connected.

The visit highlighted something that PDCCA has understood for decades: that community isn't just about having services available. It's about creating opportunities for people to get out, meet others, have a chat and feel part of something.

It was wonderful to see that recognised on such a high-profile stage.

And, admittedly, it was also rather surreal to see an organisation whose branding and website we worked on appearing in the news!

Why local projects matter to us

One of the things we really value is being able to work with local organisations based in West Sussex.

There can sometimes be a perception that good design is something reserved for big companies with big budgets. And yes we do work with some pretty big companies, but we also know that good design can be affordable, you just need to find the right design company. Everybody deserves the opportunity to be the very best they can be online. That applies to a small business, a community group, or a charity just as much as it does to a large organisation.

Good web design can help you reach more people, and good photography is part of that. A clear visual identity gives an organisation confidence, and helps it present itself consistently.

Helping good things happen locally

We're very proud of the work PDCCA does, and are pleased that we were able to contribute something to them.

The new website is one small part of a much bigger picture, one which is made up of volunteers, trustees, local residents, and community organisations who give their time to help others. Yesterday's visit put a spotlight on that work, but the important thing is that the work continues long after the cameras have gone.

That's what we love about community projects. Good things are happening all around us. Sometimes they just need a little help being seen.

If you're a local charity, community group or small organisation that needs help with branding, photography or a website, we'd love to hear from you. We're always happy to have a chat about what you need, and see whether we can help, so please get in touch.
